Lupus Initiative

Year 1 Lessons Learned

A continuing partnership with the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) is bringing five AHEC centers a new lupus initiative this summer. Lupus is a serious and potentially life-altering disease for those who have it. Unfortunately, lupus is also severely misdiagnosed and underdiagnosed in Hispanic, Black, and Native American populations. To address this provider practice gap NAO and ACR will work with three Arizona AHECs and two Louisiana AHECs to implement learning and networking sessions in their areas; building awareness of the disease and relationships with practicing rheumatologists. Congratulations to these five awardee AHECs on this new, important, and exciting initiative:

Northern Arizona AHEC

Southeastern Arizona AHEC

Western Arizona AHEC

Southeast Louisiana AHEC

Southwest Louisiana AHEC
